Informational Advice Letter - Anticipated Vacancy on the
Nuclear Decommissioning Trust Fund Committee

Pursuant to Decision (D.)13-01-039, Southern California Edison Company (SCE)
respectfully submits this Tier 1 Informational Advice Letter (Tier 1 AL) to provide
advance notice of an anticipated vacancy on the Nuclear Decommissioning Trust Fund
In response to D.87-05-062, SCE developed trust agreements for its nuclear
decommissioning costs in accordance with the guidelines set forth in that Decision.
Two trusts were required, one for the decommissioning contributions that qualify for an
income tax deduction under Section 468A of the Internal Revenue Code (Qualified
Trust), and one for the remaining contributions (Non-qualified Trust). The two trusts are
collectively referred to herein as the "Trusts." On November 25, 1987, SCE's trust
agreements were approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (Commission),
and executed shortly thereafter by the Commission, SCE, and the Trustee. The Trusts
were initially funded on February 2, 1988 and the trust agreements have been amended
from time to time thereafter with Commission approval.
On January 24, 2013, the Commission issued D.13-01-039 reviewing the management
and administration of the nuclear decommissioning trust funds externally managed for
each of the three major investor-owned electric utilities. The Commission has asked the
Utilities to submit an “information-only” advice letter to advise the Commission of an
anticipated or unanticipated vacancy on the Nuclear Decommissioning Trust Fund
Committee. The advice letter shall also be provided to each Commissioner.
SCE anticipates that one of the committee’s existing members intends to resign from
the Committee before the end of his term and we are therefore conducting a search for
